King Kong Trailer

Ok fine Mr. Jackson, you have my attention (again). King Kong.

I launched a new blog for entrepreneurs

I don't expect anyone to care (or have even noticed), but blogging here on my own blog has been light-to-pathetic. But that's because I've been in my secret laboratory bringing life to a new idea that I'm excited about.

It's a blog of resources specifically for fellow Internet professionals, entrepreneurs, sole proprietors, freelancers, consultants, lone wolves, whathaveyou.

It's a blog of stuff that should make your life easier. My goal is to catalog all the best stuff.

I have no idea if this will be as interesting to others and it is to me, but I guess we'll see. My hope is that you'll (a) find it useful (b) help submit resources I may have missed and (c) tell others about it who may be interested.

So without further adoooo.... I present: www.workhappy.net: killer resources for entrepreneurs.

A little Q&A.

What's a killer resource? A killer resource can be anything that helps us do our jobs better or easier. It should be something especially helpful, something remarkable, something that makes you go "wow" and that really does help. It can be a product, a service, a book, a person, a magazine, a magazine article, a blog post, a website, an idea, a review, younameit. If it's remarkable, and it helps us do our jobs, it's a killer resource.

Can anyone submit a resource? Yes, absolutely anyone that is aware of, or even offers a killer resource should submit. When you submit a resource I review the submission and if approved post it to the blog.

How can I help?
I'm fully prepared to fuel this thing on my own, there's a constant stream of cool stuff out there and it's growing all the time. However, if I have help submitting resources it will grow that much faster, be that much broader and hopefully, that much better. Please don't be shy, if there's something you think it worthy, submit it. I'll link back to your site for every submission you make. So hopefully if nothing else, a little pagerank love will spur you on. :)

Why are you doing this?
Several reasons:

  1. My primary motivation in doing this is to help folks find cool resources out there, I know how insanely helpful it is to me to Skype, Safety Bar, Launch, and Basecamp. If there's someone else out there like me, trying to figure this all out, I hope it proves a valuable a resource for them.
  2. To give some well deserved additional publicity to truly cool stuff.
  3. To create a catalog/resource for myself. Think of it as my glorified browser bookmark folder titled "killer resources" (and in fact, that's how most of these started).
  4. To further my experiments with Adsense. Once (if) this gains some momentum I'll place some unobtrusive ads (like I have on this blog) and try to make it financially rewarding too. Adsense won't make me rich of course, but I'm an entrepreneur and I'm always looking for ways to gain additional financial success. I'll share my experiences here so others can learn as well.

Ok, so I've seeded it with a handful of my very favorite resources. I hope you'll chime in with yours. I've also got a list of stuff yet to review, if you see anything here that you use and that rocks, submit!

Killer resources, candidates for submission:
Jot Spot
Streamload
Slide Show Pro
Plaxo (haven't used it, looks cool?)
Bloglines
FireFox

It had to be done

So last night, after bloglines groaned beneath the weight of my 5000+ unread items, I did some serious pruning. I've pared my blog feeds back to 73. Now I have just 1214 unread items. Much more manageable. There's just too much good information out there. Can everyone please stop writing good stuff until I get caught up? Thanks.

All sorts of fun factoids

Number of pink flamingos sold in the U.S.: 40 million

Designed by artist Dan Featherstone in 1957 based on a bird he saw in National Geographic, the flamingo is frequently derided as a symbol of bad taste, and is banned in many towns, including Celebration, Fla., a town built by Disney.
