Hack to block Flash Firefox popups

Update 8/9: From what I can tell, this not only didn't work, it messed some things up. Not advised.

Link: Firefox popups | www.petebevin.com.

Fortunately, you can get around it:

  1. Type about:config into the Firefox location bar.
  2. Right-click on the page and select New and then Integer.
  3. Name it privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins
  4. Set the value to 2.

The possible values are:

  • 0: Allow all popups from plugins.
  • 1: Allow popups, but limit them to dom.popup_maximum.
  • 2: Block popups from plugins.
  • 3: Block popups from plugins, even on whitelisted sites.

I've noticed a decrease in pop ups since I followed that advice, and nothing has stopped working, AFAIK.

Hi Chris, I may have noticed a decrease in popups, but I guess I was expecting them to all go away, and they haven't. Also: sites like this don't seem to load at all in FF and I'm not sure if it's related, but I think it is because now that I've nuked that "fix" this site loads fine. http://www.dungeonseige.com

FWIW, the site loads fine for me, and I've still got the fix on.
