What's the motive here? I mean, this spreads like crazy. It's been brilliantly marketed. Only now I'm wondering to what end? I'm sure they have a master plan, I'd just be curious to know what it is.

A follow up to this story is here: News that the new Maxtor external drives for DVRs will actually be crippled and only enabled for providers.

It won't be sold to customers but instead only to cable and satellite companies. Since you won't actually own the device, you won't have any rights to get at the data inside the drives, apart from your set-top box.

So how will this dutch auction work? Can you get in on the action? Here's a guide that answers some common questions. Looks interesting (and innovative? I'm too ignorant to know how often this happens but I've never heard of it).

Frankly, I'm not sure I'd buy a truckload of this stock. It's going be insane at the beginning (although it looks like us peons might able to get a piece of the IPO pie?), and while I love Google and think they are cool, neat and fun, they are rapidly losing market share to extremely aggresive rivals like Yahoo, AOL and MSN.

Plus, will being a public company cause them to lose that independent edge we love about them? It's interesting to see the terms of their filing designed to preserve that.

Should be very exciting to watch.

That's just awesome. Breaking into the "fast food burger joint" world has as much appeal to me as trying to create a new reality show. But Burgerville has something awesome going on, local ingredients, seasonal menus, etc. I love it.

One shocker is that only 2% of households are familiar with PVRs? I mean, I didn't expect huge numbers, but 2%, in the face of the rabid TiVo fans shows me that dear old TiVo is doing something terribly, terribly wrong.

So I haven't fired up my RSS reader since before my trip. That's what, like 2 weeks+ now that I haven't synched with all my nearly 100 favorite feeds?

I'll let you in on a secret: I'm scared to death to synch now. I can only imagine the zillions and zillions of posts, begging me to notice and read them.
